During the depression years of the 1920's and 30's knitters used the most amazing colour combinations in their knitwear. Whether this was through expedience, using up all the small amounts of left-over yarn, or a way to brighten up the hard way of life, the result was marvellous.
These brightly patterned Fair Isles became a fashion success and no self-respecting under-graduate would be seen without a Fair Isle sweater or slipover. Our Jazz pattern incorporates thirteen colours in a traditional "all-over" pattern in which there are no plain rows at all. Each row has two colours giving this garment real warmth, but still retaining the quality of light weight for which Shetland wool is famous. |
