Fernbank pattern hand knits
Shetland knitters have sought inspiration from many sources, especially from the sea and the landscape around them. Soft natural colours are blended with the colours of the heather and lichens in this shaded pattern. The "shading-in" of one pattern to the next using small diamonds of colour was introduced in the 1950's and has now become part of the Shetland knitting tradition.
Colours shown, left to right, fern, blue, natural.
