Taken from a jumper in the Shetland Museum, this pattern was knitted in Fair Isle in the 1920's. The original colour scheme was the old Fair Isle colours on a natural white background. The unusual point is the use of a very dark blue (almost navy) instead of the traditional indigo blue.
We have also translated the pattern into natural colours of brown (moorit), dark brown (Shetland black). light grey (sholmit) and dark grey (shaela) on a natural fawn (eesit) background. |
